About

SHLC is a non-profit agency and is funded by The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU) and formerly the National Literacy Secretariat (NLS)

  1. I just received a retweet for registration of one of your courses. I’m interested to find more about how SHLC utilizes ICT in non-formal classroom settings. Here is a more info about our project.

The Nunavut Community Access Program’s Office of Learning and Essential Skills project has launched a wonderful opportunity to share your ICT learning stories with communities across Canada. So if you have any stories about people in your area learning to use any form of ICT outside of the classroom be it a fax machine, a land line telephone, a cell phone (including texting), an Internet based phone, GPS, community radio or TV, a computer or the Internet to communicate in any fashion (Facebook, YouTube, Video Chat or Conferencing, email etc.) we want to hear from you.

All we need is a brief description of your project with your contact information and your preferred time for us to contact you. Then we call you or your designated contact at the time specified by you to gather details of your story. We will write the story for you if you are in a time crunch.

The project is looking for ways in which learners in rural, remote or Aboriginal communities learn to utilize these technologies in a non-classroom setting. Think of this as “learning by doing”.

Once we have collected these best practices or stories, we will be widely disseminating them across the country so that other communities that are interested can create similar projects.

    Deadline: June 30, 2011

For more information, please visit: http://bit.ly/OLES2011.

All stories submitted will be reviewed and entered into a contest to win one of 15 laptops, the top 25 entries will be invited to present their story live in a conference still to be announced and all accepted entries will be published in a booklet for distribution across the country.

I look forward to hearing from some one at your organization.

    Cheers,
    Anthony
